A renewed search for the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has been launched more than a decade after the aircraft mysteriously disappeared.

Speaking to the press on February 25, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that marine exploration company Ocean Infinity is responsible for resuming the above search.

The contract is for 18 months and Malaysia will pay Ocean Infinity $70 million if the plane is found.

In case it is not found, Malaysia will still follow the principle of no payment, similar to the previous unsuccessful search conducted by Ocean Infinity in 2018.

On March 8, 2014, Boeing 777 flight MH370 carrying 239 people disappeared from radar screens while en route from the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur to the Chinese capital Beijing.

The initial efforts by Ocean Infinity - based in the UK and US - came after a large-scale Australian-led search for the plane lasted three years before being suspended in January 2017.

Although this is the largest search in aviation history, so far this plane is "still missing".

In December last year, the Malaysian government announced that it had agreed to open a new search for flight MH370.
