Cholesterol is a component of blood lipids, plays an important role in the activity of nerve cells and hormone production, helping the body function normally and healthily.

There are two main types of cholesterol: LDL (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol). If LDL-cholesterol levels increase over a long period of time, it will lead to fat deposits in the blood vessel walls, causing atherosclerosis. These atherosclerotic plaques will narrow or block blood vessels, impede blood circulation, or worse, suddenly rupture blood vessels, causing many serious complications.

Eat a lot of animal organs

Grilled, fried, and stir-fried animal organs are popular dishes. However, in fact, these foods contain more cholesterol than meat, which is not good for the body. Therefore, although organs are delicious, we need to limit them and supplement our meals with other healthier food sources.

Eat too few green vegetables

Everyone knows that eating vegetables is very good, but there are many people who know this but still eat too few green vegetables. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), adults need to eat about 400 grams of green vegetables every day. However, in Vietnam, more than half of the adult population does not eat enough vegetables and on average each person only eats about 200 grams of green vegetables per day.

According to information provided by Associate Professor, Dr. Le Bach Mai at the launching ceremony of "Action Month to fight excess cholesterol in the body", up to 51% of Vietnamese women do not eat enough recommended amount of vegetables, while for men, the number is up to 63%.

It can be said that green vegetables and fruits are very good foods for the body. In addition to providing many vitamins and minerals that are good for the body, they also contain many antioxidants that help keep cells young longer. Green vegetables also provide the body with a lot of fiber. When consumed, the fiber in vegetables helps remove excess cholesterol from the intestines and out of the body, reducing the absorption of this substance in the blood.

Lazy to drink water but still like to drink a lot of alcohol, beer and carbonated drinks

70% of our body is water and providing enough water for ourselves is very necessary. Not drinking enough water will lead to disorders in the cholesterol metabolism process in the body. In addition, drinking little water also leads to the accumulation of waste in the intestines, cholesterol is not eliminated, leading to the reabsorption of cholesterol into the body and the result is excess cholesterol in the body.

Besides, we certainly meet many people who like to drink alcohol, beer or carbonated drinks. Needless to say, everyone understands that these drinks are not good for health, but importantly, drinking too much of these drinks will increase cholesterol levels in the body.
