Hai Duong strives to have the first international train departing from Cao Xa station, Cao An commune (Cam Giang) by April 30, creating a new and effective method of freight transport for businesses.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong and Thanh Ha district plan to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for lychee exports at Cao Xa station, Cao An commune (Cam Giang) instead of cutting the ribbon at a commune in Thanh Ha district as before. Cao Xa station is being renovated and upgraded to handle international trains, which will provide new solutions in transporting import and export goods for businesses not only in Hai Duong province.
Cao Xa Station is located on the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, currently has three railways, responsible for passing trains and loading and unloading goods. The station is about 5 km from the center of Hai Duong city, connecting district road 194B with provincial roads and national highways to localities in and outside the province, near many industrial parks and factories with large import and export needs. Currently, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) is urgently upgrading and renovating the station, warehouse, train pick-up and drop-off roads, and cargo loading and unloading roads to meet the minimum requirements for specialized appearance. According to VNR's proposal, Cao Xa station operates 2 international transit routes. Line 1 from Cao Xa - Yen Vien international transit station (Hanoi) - Kep (Bac Giang) - Dong Dang (Lang Son) - Bang Tuong (Guangxi, China), from here going deep into mainland China or transiting China to Central Asian countries, Russia, EU... Line 2 from Cao Xa - Lao Cai - Son Yeu station (Northern Hekou, Yunnan, China) and changing means of transport to go deep into mainland China.
Faced with the current pressure of overloaded road traffic, traffic insecurity, high costs, and environmental pollution, international rail transport is an effective solution because of its low freight transport costs, ability to carry large volumes, ability to transport frozen goods (suitable for transporting agricultural products such as lychees, carrots, etc.), safety, and reduced environmental pollution.
Currently, Hai Duong has the leading import and export goods production and processing activities in the country. The demand for importing raw materials for production from China to Vietnam is very high as well as exporting products to major markets. After upgrading, export goods can complete customs procedures right at Cao Xa station, transported by intermodal rail to border gates to other countries, shortening the time for procedures and transportation.
During a recent on-site inspection of the Cao Xa station cargo yard upgrade and renovation project with the leaders of the Ministry of Transport, Hai Duong Provincial Party Secretary Tran Duc Thang was pleased that the project had achieved initial results. After the upgrade, the international rail transit train will be of great significance to Hai Duong, creating favorable conditions for businesses importing and exporting goods. He proposed to speed up the construction progress, striving to have the first international transit train depart by April 30.
Besides the advantages of rail transport, many businesses are also concerned about whether the route by car and other specialized vehicles is clear enough from the production site to the station; whether the cargo yard is wide enough and what are the loading and unloading facilities? Will the fixed train schedule cause pressure when gathering a large amount of goods at the station on time for departure? What is the accommodation like in this area?…
Together with VNR, speeding up the upgrading progress through many stages to modernize Cao Xa international transit station with a cargo yard and warehouse of tens of thousands of square meters, relevant levels and sectors of Hai Duong need to strengthen coordination in implementing the project; pay attention to developing multimodal transport and logistics services to support businesses in exporting and importing goods conveniently. Levels and sectors promote the project of the Logistics Center, Ninh Giang inland waterway port with a capacity of 3 million tons of goods/year and projects in the "gestation" period to provide rich transportation services for industrial parks and clusters that are opening more and more.
