Food poisoning continues to occur, Ministry of Health "reminds" to increase food traceability

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been a number of food poisoning incidents, including major food poisoning incidents that have caused many people to be hospitalized.

Information from the Ministry of Health this morning, May 20, said that Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen, Standing Member of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety, has just signed an official dispatch to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on strengthening control and traceability of food ingredients and food.

According to the Ministry of Health, from the beginning of 2024 until now, there have been a number of food poisoning incidents, including major food poisoning incidents that caused many people to be sick and hospitalized for treatment.

According to initial investigation results, the cause of poisoning is mostly related to food ingredients such as chicken, pork, seafood, vegetables, and fruits from domestic and imported production facilities.

The above food ingredients and foods are under the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as prescribed in Article 38 of Decree No. 15/2018/ND-CP dated February 2, 2018 of the Government detailing the implementation of a number of articles of the Law on Food Safety.

To enhance the effectiveness of ensuring food safety, preventing food poisoning and protecting public health, the Central Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety requests the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct relevant agencies in the agricultural sector to strengthen control of food ingredients and food of animal and plant origin produced domestically and imported.

At the same time, proactively coordinate with agencies in the health sector to trace the origin of food ingredients and food when food poisoning cases occur. At the same time, strengthen the inspection, examination and supervision of establishments producing and trading food ingredients and food of domestic and imported animal and plant origin, and strictly handle any violations of the law on food safety.

Strengthen information and propaganda on the risk of food poisoning and food poisoning prevention for establishments producing and trading food ingredients and food of domestic and imported animal and plant origin; Guide consumers to choose and use safe food.
