Find out about the destination

To have a true forest tour, you should choose a primeval forest because it ensures wild beauty and diverse flora and fauna.

You should research the location, safety, and weather conditions of the chosen place in advance. To avoid risks during the trip, you should inform your relatives and friends in advance about the location, plans, and duration of your stay there.

Once you have chosen a suitable forest, you should choose a camping location near a river or stream and about 15km from the nearest residential area.

In particular, you should hire a local who is familiar with the terrain to join the trip. They will help you avoid getting lost or find many shortcuts.

Prepare your health

Health is a very important factor for a successful trip. Therefore, you should prepare yourself with good health and exercise regularly before starting the trip.

Mountain climbing requires flexibility and endurance of the legs, so you should take good care of your legs to limit muscle tension and cramps when moving.

Should go in large groups

You should travel in groups to avoid getting lost and to help each other when necessary. If you are traveling in densely wooded areas, you should mark the path you have just traveled with simple signs to avoid retracing your steps. If there are obstacles on the way, the person in front must notify the person behind.

Jungle clothes, necessary items

When going to the forest, you should wear loose, comfortable clothes. If you travel in the summer, you should choose a T-shirt inside and a long-sleeved jacket outside to avoid being scratched by the thorns and to avoid catching a cold from sweating or being exposed to the forest wind.

You should also bring a waterproof backpack with a waist strap for easy movement. A pair of soft canvas shoes or non-slip rubber shoes and a bucket hat are also essential.

In addition, the indispensable items for a jungle trip that you must bring include knives, axes, tents, sleeping bags, flashlights, batteries, cameras, lighters, raincoats, blankets, pots and pans for cooking. Important medical and food items include first aid kits and medicine, insect repellent, mosquito repellent, leeches, drinking water, canned food, and instant noodles.

How to handle dangerous situations

Accident

Forest tourism always has many unpredictable accidents, requiring you to stay calm to find a way to handle them. Among them, falling into wild animal traps, encountering explosives or illegal loggers… are often the top threats.

On the other hand, when camping near rivers and streams, you should be careful when bathing and washing clothes and should not go to the top of waterfalls. If it rains, you must quickly move up to higher ground to avoid sudden floods.

Insect bites, stings

Getting bitten by insects while walking in the forest is quite common, that’s why you should bring insect repellent, mosquito repellent cream… Before entering the forest, use mosquito spray around your pants from the knees down to avoid insect bites. Apply hot balm around your socks to avoid being bitten by leeches.

In particular, there are many snakes in the forest, you should crush garlic, mix it with water and sprinkle it around the resting place. If you are bitten by a snake, tie a checkered flag according to medical instructions and go down the mountain quickly. In an emergency, you can make a small incision in the wound and suck out the venom.

Lost

If you are lost, it is important to stay calm to avoid panicking and losing your way. Then you should find trails or follow the water to get back downstream. In addition, you can light a fire to create smoke, or make noise to help people find you easily.

If you get lost and have nothing to eat or drink, you can eat wild fruits (those that you are sure are not poisonous), drink dew collected from tree leaves and absolutely do not eat colorful poisonous mushrooms.

Experience eating, drinking, sleeping in the forest

Make sure to eat cooked food and drink boiled water to protect your health. Eat a full breakfast to maintain the necessary energy for the day. For lunch, you can eat dry food and cakes to make it easier to move around.

You should bring mineral water or some energy drinks and should not drink water from rivers or streams (because they contain a lot of bacteria). Along the way, you should drink ginseng tea (or mix it with mineral water) to quench your thirst and stay healthy.

When sleeping in the forest, the sleeping area should be between rows of trees to prevent trees from falling on you during storms. Choose a flat, airy place to lie down instead of places with lots of rocks (especially at the foot of mountains). It is best to light a fire when sleeping to keep warm and to scare away wild animals. If sleeping in a hammock, avoid places with sharp objects or rocks underneath to avoid the hammock breaking, which can be dangerous for you.
