Authorities are investigating the origin of the 'mountain' of candy and cookies piled up at the La Phu village landfill (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi) right after the 2025 Lunar New Year.
On the afternoon of February 5, at the People's Committee of La Phu commune, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tien - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune said that currently, functional units are investigating and verifying the origin of the "mountain" of strange candies thrown away at the local waste transfer area."This strange batch of candy has appeared at the landfill for a few days now. We are working with authorities to verify the origin, as well as track down the person who dumped the waste to handle it according to regulations," said Mr. Tien.According to records, dozens of tons of candies of all kinds were piled up and thrown away at the landfill area along Dong Tien residential road in La Phu commune right after the 2025 Lunar New Year holidays, causing this area to be in a state of disarray.Many types of candy here have one thing in common: they do not have Vietnamese labels, product information or origin.On the packaging, most of the strange characters appear, suspected to be Chinese characters.Among them, many dishes are popular and familiar to many people.The smell of food attracts flies and mosquitoes, covering a large area.Many types of canned drinks are also dumped in this landfill.According to people living around the area, these could be expired imported candies that were dumped here by production and distribution facilities.Due to the large quantity, this amount of candy piled up into a mountain of trash, surprising many passersby.All kinds of candy with foreign labels are being dumped.The landfill is located right next to a busy residential road, causing a terrifying scene for many passersby.Many products do not have a manufacturing date or expiration date on the packaging.People are concerned that this mountain of candy trash left for a long time will cause serious environmental pollution, especially because they suspect that part of the danger has been released into the market before.Inside the trucks were also dozens of different types of discarded candy.Instant sausages are also dumped indiscriminately.According to the leader of La Phu commune, it is expected that in the next few days, the authorities will have initial verification results on the origin of this candy mountain.TH (according to VTC News)
