A Hanoi tycoon saved billions of dong by not buying many genuine options for the McLaren 765LT supercar.

Recently, the trend of playing supercars among Hanoi tycoons has somewhat "cooled down" as the number of cars is decreasing. Many supercars are transferred to tycoons in Ho Chi Minh City. However, there are still some people willing to spend tens of billions of VND to own rare cars such as Porsche 911 GT3 or McLaren 765LT.

The British supercar was purchased by a Hanoi tycoon in mid-2024, but it wasn't until the end of last year that the car appeared on the streets with the number plate 30, replacing the Ho Chi Minh City number plate 51 that was previously attached to the car. It is estimated that the Hanoi tycoon had to spend no less than 25 billion VND to own the McLaren 765LT.

In October 2023, this supercar was seized by VietinBank to "collect debt". At that time, the car was collateral for a loan, registered under the name of Ms. Cao Thi Lan Phuong according to the Car Registration Certificate No. 50 100432 issued by the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police on January 28, 2022. The car has license plate 51K-011.86.

The special feature of this McLaren 765LT is the blue paint called Paris Blue, developed by the MSO (McLaren Special Operations) personalization department. This is also the only 765LT in our country with this exterior paint color. The rest all have orange exteriors.

In addition, some exterior details of the car are made of carbon fiber manufactured by MSO such as the hood, rear spoiler, air vent cover, etc.

After being transferred to the Hanoi tycoon, many details originally made of black painted composite material were replaced with carbon fiber ones such as the front bumper splitter, headlight cover, side skirts, diffuser, rearview mirror cover and base, etc. It is estimated that the upgrade cost is not less than 100 million VND.

The cost of the upgrade is much lower than the carbon fiber trim option announced by the British car company. Accordingly, the price of the above “option” is up to more than 1.4 billion VND.

In addition, the previous owner of the British supercar spent more than 250 million to upgrade the original exhaust system to a more heat-resistant exhaust, manufactured by Novitec. The exhaust cover also uses carbon material to increase the aesthetics of the car. The new exhaust helps the sound from the turbocharged engine become stronger and more powerful.

The car’s interior is dominated by black, accented with eye-catching orange stitching, trim and patterns. The steering wheel is covered in Alcantara and the carbon fiber trim has a matte surface – similar to the center console and dashboard.

The car's seats are Racing sports seats with carbon fiber frames, which hug the driver's body better than regular sports seats. However, this type of seat makes the driver easily tired on long trips and cannot be electrically adjusted like regular seats.

The McLaren 765LT is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 755 horsepower and 799 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 330 km/h.
