The McLaren Group, which includes its automotive, sports car and technology divisions, remains headquartered in the UK, but ownership is now 100% in the hands of the Middle Eastern super-rich.

Speculation that McLaren Group was about to be acquired by a sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mumtalakat Holding Company, has been circulating since late 2023. By March this year, the information was officially confirmed by all parties involved, with reports stating that the investors had increased their ownership in the group from 60% to 100%.

Mumtalakat Holding Company now owns the McLaren Group. It is unclear how much the new owners will invest after officially acquiring the brand, but any financial support is necessary for McLaren at this time.

The British supercar maker has been struggling financially in recent years, forcing it to sell part of its prized classic car collection to Mumtalakat Holding in 2022 to raise funds to upgrade the Artura supercar. A year earlier, McLaren had also sold its headquarters and F1 racing factory due to the impact of the pandemic.

McLaren Group Executive Chairman Paul Walsh said Mumtalakat Holding’s 100% ownership of the brand would provide the company with a stable and sustainable financial position, allowing it to focus even more on delivering its long-term business plan, including investing in new products and technologies, and continuing to explore potential partnerships with industry partners.

According to Motor1, McLaren is likely to launch a new supercar later this year. The model is said to be equipped with a plug-in hybrid V8 engine, with a capacity of more than 1,000 horsepower. In addition, it will remove the brand's dihedral doors in favor of gull-wing doors, and also have an all-new carbon fiber chassis and 3D-printed suspension components.
