Question: I just bought a car and have an appointment to get the license plate but my business trip conflicts with it. Can I ask a relative to come and get it for me? What documents do I need to bring?

If you have just bought a car but have an urgent matter and cannot register the vehicle documents and get a license plate at the competent authority where you bought the car, you can ask your parents or relatives to do the vehicle documents for you if you have a power of attorney.
According to the provisions of Clause 5, Article 9 of Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA regulating the process of granting and revoking registration and license plates of road motor vehicles, there are regulations on vehicle owners' documents when registering and granting vehicle papers and license plates as follows:
“The authorized person to handle vehicle registration procedures, in addition to the vehicle owner's documents as prescribed in Clause 1, Clause 2, Clause 3 of this Article, must also present a citizen identification card or identity card or diplomatic identification card, official identification card (still valid)”.
Thus, in addition to the documents that the vehicle owner must provide when registering the vehicle, the person authorized to register the vehicle on behalf of the vehicle owner must also provide some supporting documents as prescribed by law.
When authorizing, you must make a power of attorney to reissue vehicle registration papers and stamp the license plate number for a relative, and the power of attorney to reissue vehicle registration papers must be certified by the People's Committee of the commune, ward or town.
