I just found out about this rule. I have to tell my friends tomorrow. We won't dare to trap or catch wild birds anymore.
Recently, Mrs. Lanh did not know what her son was planning to do, but he bought nets and many strange tools. Every weekend, when he was off from school, he would take them somewhere with his classmates in the neighborhood. One day, she saw her son and his friends bring home a string of wild birds from somewhere. Looking at the big and small sparrows strung together, Mrs. Lanh could not bear it, so a few days later, while the whole family was drinking water and watching TV, she gently asked her son:
- The other day, I saw you and your friends bring a lot of sparrows home. Did you buy them from someone or did you trap them yourself?
Hearing his mother's question, Hung - Mrs. Lanh's youngest son explained:
- Recently, there have been many sparrows in our village fields. Some friends invited me to buy traps to catch them and sell them. The other day we caught a lot and sold them for nearly 1 million VND. I brought the remaining ones home...
Hearing her son's story, Mrs. Lanh immediately reminded:
- Why did you do that? Do you know that these birds are very useful? They catch insects for crops. Thanks to them, farmers can limit the use of pesticides. Trapping and catching birds also upsets the ecological balance.
Hearing his wife remind his son about trapping wild birds, Mr. Hoang continued:
- Do you know that trapping and catching wild birds is against the law?
Hearing his father talk about breaking the law, Hung did not believe it and said:
- I see the villagers in the neighboring villages are still carrying big traps, almost half as big as our corn field, so what? We've been catching them for weeks now and no one has warned us about it.
- They don't know the law and the commune police don't know. If they find out, you will be fined, Mr. Hoang told his son.
To help his son understand that trapping and catching wild birds is a violation of the law, Mr. Hoang opened his phone to search for information on Google and then read clearly:
- Bird trappers can be prosecuted for violating regulations on wildlife protection under Article 234 of the 2015 Penal Code, amended in 2017. The light penalty is a fine of 50 million VND, while the heavy penalty can be imprisonment for up to 12 years.
Seeing his father read the rules clearly, Hung seemed scared and said:
- I just found out about this rule. I have to tell my friends tomorrow. We won't dare trap or catch wild birds anymore...
