Previously, Lieutenant Colonel Phan Van Manh - Chief of Chu Puh District Police said that the accident happened at 2:40 p.m. on August 12. At that time, the dump truck with license plate 81H-027.60 driven by Dinh Tien Binh overtook a car of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club driven by Mr. Nguyen Tu Sinh carrying 3 people: assistant coach Duong Minh Ninh, doctor Dao Trong Tri, and striker Paollo Madeira Oliveira.

While overtaking, Binh saw a truck coming from the opposite direction so he turned the wheel to the right, hitting the left side of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club car. After the collision, the car got stuck in the front of the dump truck and then continued to hit the truck going in the opposite direction.
Based on the testimony and evidence collected, the investigation agency determined that the initial cause was that driver Dinh Tien Binh did not ensure the conditions when overtaking according to the provisions of Point 2, Article 4 of the Road Traffic Law.
After determining the initial cause of the accident, the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Lai Province Police also decided to temporarily detain driver Dinh Tien Binh for signs of "Violating regulations on road traffic participation".
On the afternoon of August 12, driver Nguyen Tu Sinh drove a 5-seat car carrying 3 members of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club on National Highway 14, from Dak Lak to Gia Lai. When passing through Ia Hru commune, Chu Puh district, he got into an accident with 2 trucks at the same time. The incident caused assistant coach Duong Minh Ninh, striker Paollo Madeira Oliveir and doctor Dao Trong Tri to die on the spot.
