Prosecution of 8 leaders and reporters of Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine

The Investigation Police Agency of Thai Binh Province Police is expanding the investigation into the case of "extortion of property" with leaders and reporters of the Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine for strict handling.

On the afternoon of October 2, Thai Binh Provincial Police announced that based on collected documents and evidence, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency has issued a decision to prosecute and issue a temporary detention order for 8 defendants who are leaders and reporters of the Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine to investigate the act of "extortion of property" as prescribed in Article 170 of the 2015 Penal Code. The above decisions and orders have been approved by the People's Procuracy of Thai Binh Province.

Specifically, 8 defendants were prosecuted and detained, including: Dong Xuan Thu (born in 1972, residing in Lang Ha ward, Dong Da district, Hanoi, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine); Nguyen Thi Anh Hong (born in 1977, residing in Linh Nam ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi, Deputy Editor-in-Chief); Bui Van Toan (born in 1980, residing in Chuong Duong ward, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi, Head of Environmental Economics Department); Cao Thi Thu Huong (born in 1989, residing in Ta Thanh Oai commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi, accountant); Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen (born in 1989, residing in Vu Chinh commune, Thai Binh city, reporter); Nguyen Tat Trien (born in 1978, residing in Tran Lam ward, Thai Binh city, reporter); Dang Van Phuc (born in 1986, residing in Binh Minh commune, Thanh Oai district, Hanoi, reporter); Vu Duc Lan (born in 1981, residing in Xuan Phuong ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi, reporter).

Previously, through the work of grasping the situation, verifying and resolving information about crimes, from September 23 to 26, the Investigation Police Agency of Thai Binh Provincial Police issued an order to detain people in emergency cases, an emergency search warrant for the residence, workplace, and personal vehicles of the 8 subjects mentioned above and decided to prosecute the case of "Extortion of property" occurring at the Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine according to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 170 of the 2015 Penal Code.

The Investigation Police Agency of Thai Binh Province Police is expanding the investigation of the case and will strictly handle it according to the provisions of the law.
