In October, about 15% of Hanoi’s workforce was looking for jobs with salaries ranging from 10 to 20 million VND per month. However, not everyone can find this level of income.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang (34 years old), from Thanh Hoa, has 6 years of experience working in the manufacturing and trading of household appliances in Ho Chi Minh City. After a period of unemployment, he decided to move to Hanoi to look for new career opportunities to be closer to his family.

When applying for a job, he requested a starting salary of 18 - 20 million VND/month, however, recruiting businesses could only pay a salary of 10 - 12 million VND/month.

After a period of careful consideration, Mr. Thang decided to accept an offer to work for a household appliance manufacturing and trading company with a salary of 12 million VND/month.

Mr. Thang shared: "Living in Hanoi to ensure a minimum living standard (rent, food, gas, transportation), I have to spend about 10 million VND per month. With my current salary of 12 million VND, I can only maintain a basic life, waiting for the opportunity to find a new job with a higher income."

Ms. Le Ngoc Vinh, Director of a furniture manufacturing and trading company in Hanoi, said that her company both produces and constructs projects around Hanoi, so the salaries paid to workers in different departments also vary. Specifically, the average salary for factory production workers ranges from 8-9 million VND/person/month, while sales staff have a salary of 10-12 million VND. For some important positions, the salary can be up to 18-20 million VND/person/month.

Ms. Vinh shared: “Although we know that to retain workers, we must pay high salaries, but after the Covid-19 pandemic, the economy is still recovering slowly, making it difficult for businesses to pay higher salaries to workers. At this time, maintaining production and ensuring wages for workers is a great effort of businesses."

According to the Hanoi Employment Service Center, through a survey of more than 11,000 job seekers' profiles last October, about 15% of workers were looking for jobs with salaries ranging from 10-20 million VND/month. The common salary that businesses pay to workers is from 5-10 million VND/month, accounting for 57.71% of total recruitment needs.

In terms of professional qualifications, businesses mainly recruit workers with university degrees or higher, accounting for 47.98% of total recruitment needs. Next are unskilled workers (accounting for 26.39%) and technical workers without degrees or vocational certificates (accounting for 9.55%).

Recruitment demand will increase

According to the assessment of the Hanoi Employment Service Center, in October every year, recruitment demand often increases in many industries, especially in the fields of retail, services, construction, manufacturing and logistics.

Businesses tend to expand their staff to serve the shopping season and festivals, while also meeting the need to increase production and supply goods to the market. This leads to a sharp increase in the demand for recruiting part-time positions during this period.

In the last months of the year, recruitment demand continues to increase, especially in the trade, service, tourism, accommodation, food and entertainment sectors. Enterprises regularly increase recruitment to serve production and business needs during the peak holiday season.

To create job opportunities for many workers, from now until the end of the year, the Hanoi Employment Service Center will continue to organize job fairs, including specific sessions suitable for each group of workers. The Center also coordinates with universities and colleges to organize job fairs, connecting businesses with students. The connection with training institutions aims to better support job creation and provide quality human resources for the labor market.
