On September 20 (August 18 of the lunar calendar), the highlight of the Con Son - Kiep Bac Autumn Festival will be the Peace Prayer Ceremony and the Lantern Festival held at the dike area and along the Luc Dau River.
The Peace Prayer Ceremony and Lantern Festival will take place from 7-9:30 p.m. on September 20. This is one of the activities that attracts a large number of people and tourists from all over the world.
The Peace Prayer Ceremony and the Lantern Festival are special rituals held at the annual Con Son - Kiep Bac Autumn Festival. At the Peace Prayer Ceremony, monks and people will commemorate and pay tribute to compatriots, soldiers, and warriors who fought off invaders and died in battle throughout the ages to protect the country's borders; especially, praying for the souls of Tran Dynasty generals who sacrificed their lives in the resistance wars against the Yuan-Mongol invaders. The unique feature of this activity with profound humanistic meaning is that monks and people pray for the souls of the enemy soldiers who died while invading our country to be liberated.
After the Peace Prayer Ceremony, thousands of flower lanterns carrying wishes for a beautiful life and a peaceful country will be released on the Luc Dau River.
On September 20, at Kiep Bac relic site, activities continued to take place at the Culture, Tourism and Trade Promotion Week; water puppetry performances; and the Saint Recitation Festival.
Previously, on September 19, at the Kiep Bac relic site, there were activities at the Culture, Tourism and Trade Promotion Week; water puppetry performances and the Saint Rehearsal Festival. The festival has been restored and maintained for many years, aiming to preserve the Vietnamese belief in worshiping the Mother Goddesses of the Three Realms, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
