Public school students return to school as early as August 22

On August 5, the Ministry of Education and Training issued the framework plan for the 2024-2025 school year. Accordingly, the opening ceremony will still be held on September 5 as every year.

The Ministry requires public kindergartens and primary schools to organize the school opening ceremony one week before the opening ceremony, on August 29; grade 1 can open two weeks earlier, on August 22.

Semester I will end before January 18, 2025; Semester II before May 31, 2025.

Schools must consider recognizing completion of primary school and graduation from secondary school before June 30, 2025; complete enrollment at the beginning of the level before July 31 of the same year.

Based on the ministry's framework, provinces and cities proactively develop school year plans, but must ensure 35 weeks (18 weeks for semester I, 17 weeks for semester II); implement holidays and Tet according to regulations.

In case of severe weather or natural disasters, localities will proactively allow students to take time off and make up for lost time in appropriate time, ensuring progress and study plans. These localities can start school early and extend the school year by no more than 15 days compared to the ministry's schedule. In special cases, provinces and cities must report to the ministry before implementation.

The school year plan framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Training is applied to public schools. For private schools, schools can start school 4 weeks early, according to Circular 13/2011 of the Ministry. Therefore, since the beginning of August, many private schools have welcomed students and started teaching the main curriculum.
