Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh - the number one hope of Hai Duong athletics

Remarkable achievement

In 2020, Ngoc Anh participated in a major tournament for the first time, the Chi Linh City Student Athletics Tournament. Although she did not achieve any results, each step showed her effort, patience, and will, and she caught the attention of experts.

Mr. Le Van Chuc, head coach in charge of athletics at the Provincial Sports Training, Coaching and Competition Center, said: “Before that, Ngoc Anh was sick and had a fever but still tried to participate in this tournament. I called Ngoc Anh and 3 other friends in the province to the center for testing. As a result, Ngoc Anh was the lowest. At first, we were hesitant, but seeing that Ngoc Anh was very passionate, we gave her a chance.”

The coach's trust and Ngoc Anh's efforts were rewarded. At the 29th Provincial Cross Country Championship in 2020 held in Chi Linh City, Ngoc Anh asserted herself with a gold medal in the 3,000m youth event.

Her passion and training efforts have brought Ngoc Anh to national competitions. At the 2021 National Athletics Championship, Ngoc Anh performed impressively, finishing 5th out of 10 athletes competing in the 3,000m steeplechase. Although in the second round, Ngoc Anh had run the wrong way, the referee forced her to turn around and separate her group from Nguyen Thi Oanh (the queen of Vietnamese athletics). In 2023, at the 32nd SEA Games, she made an amazing achievement when she became the first Vietnamese athlete to win 4 individual gold medals in athletics in one SEA Games -PV) about 40-50 m but I still caught up.

With a strong point in running medium distances of 1,500 m, 3,000 m, 5,000 m, in 2022, Ngoc Anh consecutively won gold, silver, and bronze medals in major tournaments such as: National Youth Athletics Championship held in Kon Tum, National Youth Athletics Championship held in Ho Chi Minh City. At the 9th National Sports Festival in 2022, Ngoc Anh finished 4th in the 3,000 m obstacle course with a time of 11 minutes 23 seconds and achieved national level 1.

With these achievements, Ngoc Anh has caught the attention of national experts. In January 2023, Ngoc Anh was promoted to the national youth athletics team to train in Hanoi until now.

Constantly striving and pursuing her passion, in 2023, Ngoc Anh participated in many major tournaments and continued to win many medals at the National Youth Athletics Championships, National Youth Athletics Championships, and National Athletics Championships. In the same year, Ngoc Anh marked her maturity in the regional arena with a gold medal in the 3,000m event at the 2023 Southeast Asian Junior Athletics Championships held in Thailand...

Most recently, the Hai Duong runner continued to win the gold medal in the 5km distance for young women at the 65th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship in 2024 held in Tuy Hoa City (Phu Yen). This is an impressive achievement for Ngoc Anh when competing alongside successful young national athletes.

Passion beyond limits

Revealing her fate in sports, Ngoc Anh said that she has been passionate about running since middle school. The person who inspired Ngoc Anh to pursue her passion was Vietnam's number one track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh. "I really admire Ms. Oanh. Her efforts, perseverance, determination to train, her spirit of overcoming challenges and her gold medals have greatly inspired me to pursue my passion," Ngoc Anh said.

It is known that Ngoc Anh's family did not support her in pursuing sports but wanted her to study abroad or pursue other directions. But her passion surpassed her limits and in the end, the person who supported Ngoc Anh wholeheartedly was her mother.

Ngoc Anh's mother was always by her side in most of the tournaments. Despite her busy business management, Ngoc Anh's mother also went to the 2023 Southeast Asian Junior Athletics Championships held in Thailand to cheer and encourage her...

"After the generation of excellent track and field athletes of Hai Duong such as Tran Thi Mai and Hoang Thi Trang in the period of 2011-2015, Hai Duong now has another athlete who is a great hope. Ngoc Anh is on the way to good development, is the red seed of the national youth team and is the number one hope of Hai Duong track and field", commented head coach Le Van Chuc.

With her strength in the middle-long distance, hopefully Ngoc Anh will bring medals to Hai Duong at the 2026 National Sports Festival and national tournaments.
