The Vietnamese women's team won 2-0 against Nepal in the first match of the women's football group stage of the 19th ASIAD.

The Vietnamese team had twice defeated Nepal in the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers with a total score of 7-1 earlier this year. Therefore, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team are expected to win 3 points in the opening match of the 19th ASIAD when they meet this opponent again. Despite facing many difficulties against a defensive opponent, the Vietnamese women's team still completed the task.

Without Huynh Nhu at ASIAD 19, coach Mai Duc Chung gave young player Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang a chance in attack. The Vietnamese team dominated the opponent but did not create many opportunities. The Nepalese team pulled their formation back to the middle of the field and there was very little space for the Vietnamese players to exploit to approach the goal.

After a goalless first half, the Vietnamese women's team continued to dominate in the second half. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung made fans regretful with a free kick that hit the crossbar.

However, not long after that, the Vietnamese team celebrated their goal. The Nepalese goalkeeper could only block Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy's long-range shot but could not save Pham Hai Yen's close-range rebound. The Vietnamese women's team opened the scoring in the 53rd minute.

Hai Yen (12) and Bich Thuy (15) scored to help the Vietnamese women's team win.

Ten minutes later, coach Mai Duc Chung's students continued to score. Duong Thi Van assisted Bich Thuy to head the ball into Nepal's net to double the gap.

The Vietnamese women's team continued to play proactively. Nepal had a few counterattacks but did not pose any threat to the Vietnamese defense. Hai Yen and her teammates had more chances but could not take advantage to score more goals.
