Players practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center
According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation, on August 17, the Vietnam Women's Team continued to have a training session at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center to prepare for the 19th ASIAD.
In response to concerns about Huynh Nhu’s possible absence from the ASIAD training camp, coach Mai Duc Chung said that during Huynh Nhu’s absence, striker Pham Hai Yen will be the team captain. The two vice-captains will be goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh and center-back Chuong Thi Kieu.
“We have prepared a plan if Huynh Nhu cannot join the Vietnam Women's Team to participate in the upcoming ASIAD. Huynh Nhu being able to compete with the team is a great thing, but this depends on the permission of Lank FC when Huynh Nhu continues to sign a contract with this club with binding terms. If Huynh Nhu is not present, it will be a pity, but we will also arrange a suitable position in the squad," coach Mai Duc Chung shared.
Regarding the goal of the Vietnam Women's Team at the upcoming ASIAD, Mr. Mai Duc Chung said that the opportunity will be decided by the players themselves.
“This opportunity is open to all young players. The upcoming squad will be a mix of both senior and young players. If the players can carry out the coaching staff's intentions, they will have a starting position. The whole team is also aiming to win each match and go deep at the 19th ASIAD," he said.
Sharing about the youth training of Vietnam Women's Football, Coach Mai Duc Chung said that participating in the FIFA World Cup Finals is an honor for the Women's Football Team, but through that we also know that the team's level is still limited compared to other teams. Therefore, he suggested that localities doing women's football need to quickly train the next generation.
He said: "How to get Vietnamese Women's Football to participate in the next World Cup is important. We are doing rejuvenation work, from after the SEA Games, after the World Cup and will continue after that because if we only have one team, we will be at a disadvantage compared to other countries. Some other countries are also doing strong rejuvenation work like Thailand or some other countries. If we do not rejuvenate in time, we will be left behind."
After the first week of training, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed satisfaction with the results of the young players. He said the young players have made a lot of progress and tried hard, following the example of the older players after the World Cup.
The women's team will travel to Hai Phong for training and have some friendly matches there. Head coach Mai Duc Chung said: "In the near future, the National Women's Team will go to Hai Phong for training. In addition to the task of improving physical strength and tactics, we will have some practice matches to review the force."
According to the plan, the National Women's Team will have a friendly match with the Hai Phong Veterans Team. "This is also an opportunity for us to thank Hai Phong football fans who have always supported us over the past years, especially after more than 20 years since the 2003 SEA Games, the Vietnam Women's Team won the championship in Hai Phong", said coach Mai Duc Chung.
Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will gather at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center until August 19.
After that, the National Women's Team will have a training trip in Hai Phong before returning to Hanoi to prepare to move to China to participate in the 19th ASIAD qualifiers from September 22.
