On May 14, information from the People's Committee of Rach Cheo commune, Phu Tan district (Ca Mau province) said that in the commune, 2 men died and 1 person was hospitalized after a drinking party.
Specifically, at noon on May 11, Mr. NVL (43 years old, residing in Rach Cheo hamlet, Rach Cheo commune) organized a drinking party at home, inviting Mr. LVL (45 years old) and Mr. VVC (54 years old).
On the morning of May 12, Mr. LVL had difficulty breathing and vomited blood, so his family took him to Rach Cheo Commune Health Station for examination. There, Mr. LVL was diagnosed with gastrointestinal bleeding, so his family asked him to be transferred to a higher-level medical facility for treatment. However, due to difficult circumstances, his family took Mr. LVL home.
At 2:00 a.m. on May 13, Mr. LVL continued to show signs of fatigue and vomited blood, so his family took him to Rach Cheo Medical Station for examination, but about 10 minutes later, Mr. LVL died.
At around 8:30 p.m. on May 12, Mr. VVC showed signs of fatigue and difficulty breathing, so his family took him to Cai Nuoc General Hospital in Cai Nuoc District for treatment. However, at 5:40 p.m. on May 13, Mr. VVC died at Cai Nuoc General Hospital.
As for Mr. NVL, on the morning of May 13, he showed signs of fatigue and difficulty breathing, so his family transferred him to Ca Mau General Hospital for emergency care.
Doctor Ma Nhon Khiem, Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison, Ca Mau General Hospital, said that patient NVL was admitted to the hospital at 12:00 on May 13. According to the patient's family, the patient felt tired and had blurred vision after a day of drinking alcohol. When he was admitted to the hospital, the patient only saw white (could not see anything around him). The patient was diagnosed with methanol poisoning and was treated with dialysis. The patient is now out of danger.
Regarding Mr. VVC’s case, according to Cai Nuoc General Hospital, when he was admitted to the hospital, his family did not report that he had consumed alcohol before. In addition, the patient had gastrointestinal bleeding and showed no signs of methanol poisoning, so there was little suspicion. However, after a blood test, the treating doctor discovered it, and after asking, the family said that the patient had consumed alcohol. Although the hospital actively provided emergency care, the patient died shortly thereafter.
