In 2024, many localities will allocate budget to support 30% of health insurance premiums for the elderly and people in garbage collection teams.

Exciting

As a poor household in Lai Cach town (Cam Giang), Ms. Vu Thi Duong (72 years old) clearly understands the benefits of health insurance. She has participated in health insurance for nearly 10 years so that when she is sick and has to go to the hospital, the health insurance card fund will support the cost. After the district has a policy to support 30% of the health insurance premium for people from 70 to under 77 years old, along with 70% of the premium already supported by the Hai Duong provincial budget, Ms. Duong will be given a free health insurance card.

Receiving the health insurance card, Mrs. Duong happily said: "Everyone wants to be healthy, but when you are old and unfortunately get sick, having a health insurance card will help you and your children less. Thanks to the district's policy of supporting 30% of the health insurance premium, I now have a free health insurance card."

Ms. Duong happily received a health insurance card from the labor, war invalids and social affairs officer of Lai Cach town.

The family of Ms. Doan Thi Nhiem (61 years old) in An Lam commune (Nam Sach) has 3 members who are all part of the village's garbage collection team, and have been doing this job for 14 years. Four times a week, she and her husband follow the garbage truck around the village roads and alleys to collect garbage for the people. The work is hard, working in a polluted environment, with health risks, so having a health insurance card is very important for Ms. Nhiem's family.

Nam Sach District has just agreed to support 30% of health insurance premiums for people aged 65 to under 77 and waste collectors in the district. The support period starts from July 1. Knowing that she will receive this health insurance premium support, Ms. Nhiem was very excited.

Popular policy

A health insurance card is very meaningful to garbage collectors like Mrs. Nhiem and her husband.

Based on the resolutions of the Provincial People's Council on supporting 70% of the insurance premium for people aged 65 to under 77, recently, the Social Insurance agencies of some localities have proactively advised the City Party Committee, District Party Committee, People's Council, and District People's Committee to issue a policy to support the remaining 30%. This means that the elderly will be granted free health insurance cards, reducing the cost of medical examination and treatment when they are unfortunately sick or ill.

Accordingly, on May 31, the People's Council of Cam Giang district unanimously approved the policy of supporting an additional 30% of health insurance premiums for the elderly from 70 to under 77 years old from the district budget, from June 1 to December 31, 2024. This time, Cam Giang district has 1,086 people from 70 to under 77 years old supported with health insurance premiums with a budget of over 316 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cong, Standing Vice Chairman of Cam Giang District People's Committee, said that implementing the Party and State's policy of caring for the elderly, in the local socio-economic development program, Cam Giang District has allocated a part of the budget to support social security policies. This is like a gift for the elderly when they get old, showing the locality's concern, contributing to increasing the health insurance coverage rate for the people, reducing the burden on the elderly and their families.

In Binh Giang district, from March 1 to December 31, 2024, more than 2,000 elderly people from 65 to under 77 years old and waste collectors were granted free health insurance cards.

According to Binh Giang District Social Insurance, in the coming time, based on the local budget situation, the unit will advise to continue to extend the period of supporting health insurance premiums for people aged 65 to under 77, waste collectors and partially support the premiums for voluntary social insurance participants. At the same time, the District Social Insurance continues to call on organizations and philanthropists to support giving social insurance books and health insurance cards to people in difficult circumstances in the district.

Supporting health insurance premiums from local budgets demonstrates the concern of Party committees and authorities at all levels for social security policies.

By the end of June 2024, the whole province had 5 localities, namely Tu Ky, Kim Thanh, Binh Giang, Cam Giang and Kinh Mon town, that had implemented a policy to support health insurance premiums from the local budget for some groups of people.

In the coming time, in order to effectively implement the support policy, the system of units under the Social Insurance of Hai Duong province will continue to carry out professional activities to ensure that all people who are eligible for support enjoy the benefits of the humane policies of the Party and State.
