Sweet Thai hybrid corn No. 2 tested by the Center for Science and Technology Application and Variety Testing (Hai Duong Department of Science and Technology) is evaluated as easy to grow, has good yield and quality, and earns a profit of 94.5 million VND/ha.
This spring crop, the Center for Science and Technology Application and Varieties Testing built a model to plant 10 hectares of Thai sweet corn hybrid No. 2 in Toan Thang commune (Gia Loc) and Dinh Son (Cam Giang).
Compared to the control variety Golden Cob corn, Thai sweet corn hybrid No. 2 has a higher germination rate and is less susceptible to leaf spot and rust. The yield of Thai sweet corn hybrid No. 2 is about 14.7 tons/ha, 1.7 tons/ha higher than the control variety. After deducting costs, the corn yields a profit of 94.5 million VND/ha, 17.7 million VND/ha higher than the control variety.
That was the result of the field workshop on Thai sweet corn hybrid variety No. 2 organized by the center on the morning of May 15 in Toan Thang commune. Delegates and farmers attending all assessed that this is an easy-to-grow corn variety with good yield and quality, and has the potential to expand locally.
