On February 27 and 28 (January 18 and 19), at the historical relic complex of Chau Khe communal house and pagoda, Thuc Khang commune (Binh Giang, Hai Duong), the spring festival and the death anniversary of the founder of the traditional gold and silver craft village of Chau Khe took place.
At the festival, in addition to traditional rituals such as announcement, incense offering, and palanquin procession, there are also cultural activities and folk games.
Chau Khe is an ancient village, formed during the Ly Dynasty (1009-1226) by Chu Tam Xuong, the leader of the Tam Xuong army. At first, the village was called Chu Xa Trang, located along the left bank of the Cuu An River. In the 15th century, the village added a goldsmithing trade when the Minister of Justice Luu Xuan Tin, a native of Chau Khe village, was assigned by King Le Thanh Tong (1460-1497) to cast silver ingots as currency. He gathered talented craftsmen from the village to the capital to set up a gold and silver ingot casting workshop in Dong Cac, Dong Tho, Huu Trac commune, Tho Xuong district (now Hang Bac street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi).
Currently, Chau Khe village has about 230 households working in gold and silver crafting, the income from these households contributes about 41 billion VND/year to the total income of the whole commune.
