21 schools in An Khe town (Gia Lai) spent a total of more than 8.84 billion VND in incorrect allowances for teachers.

This was stated in the inspection conclusion of the People's Committee of An Khe town for the period 2022 - 2023, announced by the Gia Lai Provincial Inspectorate on January 21.

Accordingly, 21 schools, from kindergarten to secondary school, paid preferential allowances to teachers not in accordance with Decision 861 of the Prime Minister (list of areas I, II, III of ethnic minority and mountainous areas).

The total amount of money spent incorrectly was 8.84 billion VND, for more than 930 teachers. The schools with the largest amount of incorrect money spent were Vo Thi Sau Primary School, nearly 1.1 billion VND; Ngo May Primary School, over 1.3 billion VND.

The Inspectorate requested the schools to recover the above amount.

Ms. Le Thi Kieu Hanh, Head of the Department of Education and Training of An Khe town, explained that previously, teacher allowances were determined based on terrain. From 2021, Decision 861 will divide regions based on economic and social situations.

Accordingly, communes that meet the new rural standards are classified into region I, and the preferential allowance for civil servants and public employees is reduced. In An Khe, many preschool and primary school teachers who used to receive a preferential allowance of 50% of the basic salary are now only entitled to 35%. Similarly, for secondary school teachers, the allowance is reduced from 35% to 30%.

However, relevant agencies did not update, leading to incorrect expenditure.
