Recently, in Hai Duong, there have been some heartbreaking incidents related to land disputes between family members. Because of material interests, because of land, family ties are lost.
Recently, Hai Duong newspaper reported on a case in which an aunt and niece in Tu Ky district sued each other in court over a dispute over the inheritance of a plot of land left by their ancestors. After that, because no one would give in, hundreds of authorities had to enforce the judgment, forcing the parties to execute the judgment. The case was temporarily closed, but from now until tomorrow, the relationship between the parties will hardly be the same as before.
In mid-2023, a land dispute in Binh Giang district also made many people feel sorry for the family. Because of the land and house left by his deceased father, the son heartlessly chased his biological mother away in order to monopolize the property. The case was only resolved when the mother had no other choice but to sue her son in court and had to enforce the judgment to return the land and house to the old woman.
At the end of 2022, public opinion across the country was shaken by a case in Hung Yen province when 3 daughters went to their mother's house to destroy things and burn gasoline because of a conflict over property division. As a result, the mother and 2 daughters died from severe burns, the remaining daughter suffered 22% burns, and was later sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for murder and property destruction...
The increasing and complicated disputes and lawsuits related to property, mainly land, between family members warn of moral degradation in society. Because of selfishness and material interests, traditional values and good customs are broken and reversed. Family members are willing to tear each other apart, consider each other as enemies, and even take each other's lives. Land will become more and more valuable, which will also cause people's greed to rise. Money is overvalued by many people, so disputes will certainly be more numerous and more complicated.
Along with criticizing selfishness, illegal and immoral acts or cultivating love, sharing and support in the family and relatives, raising awareness, understanding and respect for the law for people is very necessary. Practical examples show that disputes over property and land left by ancestors are quite common. Previously, according to tradition in many places, houses and land of parents were often left to sons who were responsible for taking care of their parents in their old age and worshiping their ancestors. Daughters who followed their husband's family were assumed not to be and were not interested in inheriting their parents' land. Currently, many families still follow the above tradition. If family members get along with each other, there will be no disputes. However, in many cases, because parents passed away without leaving a will, children, out of greed or encountering an incident that requires property and money to resolve, then find out and claim the right to inherit the property. The old customs are gone, the parents' will is gone, leading to brothers having to take each other to court to settle the matter, brothers killing each other over property.
To prevent property disputes between relatives, the effective measure at present is still to propagate and disseminate to people the advantages of property division, clear property agreements in writing in transactions to have enough basis to resolve them in accordance with regulations. Local authorities and organizations need to promptly grasp conflicts and disputes in families from the moment they arise to propagate, mobilize, and reconcile cases in accordance with the law, avoiding heartbreaking incidents, losing family ties because of land.
