The QILT (Quality Indicators of Higher Education and Training) survey, funded by the Australian Department of Education, released data on employment and wages for international students in 2023 earlier this month.

The results are based on responses from more than 28,000 international students, who have graduated between four and six months, across three levels of study: Undergraduate, Postgraduate Coursework and Postgraduate Research.

Accordingly, the rate of Vietnamese students participating in the survey with full-time jobs reached 58.9% at the undergraduate level, and 68.2% and 78.4% at the remaining two levels, respectively.

In terms of salary, university graduates earn an average of 65,000 AUD (about 1.1 billion VND) a year. This is 5,000 AUD higher than the 2022 survey and equal to the average of international students.

At the postgraduate level, Vietnamese students are paid 63,900 AUD a year, 5,900 AUD higher. The research-oriented postgraduate group receives an average salary of 92,000 AUD, an increase of 3,900 AUD.

In general, international students earn lower salaries than local students. Australian graduates earn an average of AUD 71,000-100,000 (VND 1.18-1.66 billion) per year.

QILT’s survey found that graduates’ salaries in 2023 will increase by 4.5-10% compared to the previous year. However, they will also have to pay more due to rising house prices and living costs in Australia. Inflation in the country is expected to be 5.6% in 2023.

According toUpmove, a platform that provides moving services in Australia, a person needs to spend about 51,600 AUD a year, including rent, food and transportation. International education organizationIDPCities like Adelaide, Darwin, Perth, Hobart, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Canberra are considered more affordable.

Australia is the world's top study abroad destination, along with the US and Canada. As of July, the number of international students in Australia was nearly 944,000, up more than 14% over the same period last year. Vietnam has more than 44,000 international students, ranking fifth, according to data from the country's Ministry of Education.

Tuition fees for international students are typically between AUD 24,000-52,000 (VND 400-900 million) per year. If studying medicine, this figure can be up to over AUD 100,000.
