In the golden history of our Party, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang is a great personality, an exemplary communist, belonging to the first generation of revolutionary soldiers of the Party.

The "pioneer"

His father died early, so from a young age, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang had to drop out of school and do all kinds of jobs to earn a living and help his family. In that situation, he soon understood the suffering and humiliation of the people who lost their country and nurtured the will to overthrow imperialism and feudalism to save his race.

To realize his determination and ambition, in 1925, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang applied to be a kitchen boy on the French ship Cangtong running the route from Hai Phong to Hong Kong (China). After that, he transferred to work on a French warship in Sa Dien (Guangzhou). Here, he had the opportunity to meet members of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, was enlightened and admitted to the association - the predecessor of our Party.

As the 6th person to join the association, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was directly lectured by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc on the theory of proletarian revolution in Vietnam. In September 1926, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang volunteered to return to the country to carry out the tasks assigned by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc.

From 1926 to 1929, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang worked in many places in the country, building and establishing many international communication lines, making an important contribution to sending cadres abroad for training and introducing Marxism-Leninism into the patriotic movement and the workers' movement in our country. While working at the General Department and the Southern Region, together with comrades Ngo Thiem, Ton Duc Thang, Pham Van Dong... comrade Nguyen Luong Bang established many bases of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association in the workers' movement.

In mid-1929, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was assigned to a new assignment in China. In October 1929, in Guangzhou, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was admitted to the Annam Communist Party - one of the three predecessor organizations of the Communist Party of Vietnam. After that, he was assigned to Shanghai (on the French Concession) to build a revolutionary network, and at the same time carry out military operations, establish communication lines from China to Vietnam...

It can be seen that, not only was he an early follower of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc in the national liberation revolution, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was also one of the first people to actively prepare for the founding of the Party, both in practical and theoretical activities.

Maintain integrity

In May 1931, French secret police captured comrade Nguyen Luong Bang. They tortured him right in the Shanghai concession. Unable to get any information, they took him to Saigon, detained him for a while, then sent him to Hanoi.

During his days in prison at Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi), comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was one of the enthusiastic people in campaigning to establish a Party cell, and was elected by his comrades to represent him in the struggles in prison. The struggles were successful, and the name Sao Do also appeared from here.

In 1932, despite having no evidence, the colonial court still sentenced him to life imprisonment and sent him back to Hoa Lo Prison. Refusing to back down before the enemy, after several failures, on Christmas Eve (December 25, 1932) at Phu Doan Hospital, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang and several other comrades successfully escaped from prison.

After escaping from prison and losing contact with the Party organization, he returned to his hometown in Hai Duong to build a revolutionary base and continue his activities. With the support of the people, he wrote and printed the Cong Nong newspaper himself, calling on and encouraging the masses to keep their faith in the Party and continue the struggle.

In mid-1933, during a business trip to Bac Giang, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was again captured by the enemy, sentenced to life in prison, and then imprisoned in Hoa Lo Prison until 1935 when he was exiled to Son La Prison. In this "hell on earth", he still shone with the fighting spirit of a communist. At the end of December 1939, party members in the prison secretly met to establish a provisional cell of 10 comrades and elected comrade Nguyen Luong Bang as the cell's Secretary.

During the 8 years (from 1935 until his escape in 1943), in Son La Prison, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was always at the forefront of the struggle against the prison guards, showing his indomitable spirit before the enemy. As affirmed by our Party: “Facing the savage tortures of the enemy, he was never shaken, was loyal to the Fatherland, the people, the Communist Party and the working class, and upheld the revolutionary spirit. The “Red Star” shone brightly for the revolutionaries and was a fear for the enemy. Despite all their cunning and cruel tricks, they could not shake a communist soldier with a heart of gold and a heart of iron.”

Complete all responsibilities with excellence

At the end of 1943, along with a number of other comrades, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was assigned by the Son La Prison Party Cell to escape from prison and return to participate in revolutionary activities. After successfully escaping from prison, he was assigned to work and build the ATK area near Hanoi and was appointed as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee, in charge of the Party's financial and military affairs.

In March 1945, under the chairmanship of General Secretary Truong Chinh, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang attended the Central Standing Committee Conference (expanded) in Dinh Bang village, Tu Son (Bac Ninh). The conference issued the Directive "Japan - France fighting each other and our actions"; calling on the people of the whole country to rise up to "Expel Japanese fascists", establish a revolutionary government of the people, launch a strong movement to resist Japan and save the country. That was the premise for the August General Uprising to break out and win.

With his great contributions and prestige, at the Tan Trao National Congress (August 1945), comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was one of five people elected to the Standing Committee of the National Liberation Committee. After the August Revolution succeeded in Hanoi, he was appointed as a representative of the Party Central Committee and the Viet Minh General Department to Hue to take the seal and sword from King Bao Dai.

The young Vietnamese state had to deal with internal and external enemies at the same time. To protect the revolutionary government and implement President Ho Chi Minh's ideology of great solidarity by establishing a coalition government, comrade Nguyen Luong Bang voluntarily withdrew from the government, giving way to patriotic figures outside the Viet Minh. Evaluating this action, President Ho Chi Minh emphasized: "It was a selfless, good gesture, not greedy for position, putting the interests of the nation and national unity above personal interests. It was a commendable and respectable gesture that we must learn."

Comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was assigned by the Party and State to hold many important positions: Head of the Central Economic and Financial Commission, General Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Soviet Union, Inspector General of the Government, Head of the Central Inspection Commission of the Party, Vice President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. In any position, Comrade Nguyen Luong Bang always demonstrated a revolutionary spirit, pure communist ethics, and excellently fulfilled all assigned tasks...

Not greedy for fame, not interested in personal gain, throughout his life, Comrade Nguyen Luong Bang always strived for the interests of the nation and the happiness of the people, fought tirelessly for the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland. "Comrade's example is a spiritual value that will forever shine for many generations of communists and our youth, our people. Comrade's revolutionary spirit and communist morality are immortal"
