While serving a life sentence for murder, Dinh (in Thanh Ha, Hai Duong) was sentenced to 9 months in prison for using scissors to stab another prisoner in prison.

On the afternoon of March 14, the People's Court of Hai Duong province opened the first instance trial of Nguyen Van Dinh (born in 1973, registered permanent residence in Thanh Cuong commune, Thanh Ha) for the crime of intentionally causing injury.
According to the indictment, Dinh and Nguyen Van G. are prisoners serving prison sentences at Hoang Tien Prison in Hoang Tien Ward (Chi Linh City). At around 9:00 p.m. on September 29, 2023, Dinh was eating mooncakes and dropped them on G.'s bed, so the two argued. G. kicked Dinh in the ribs. The two fought, causing Dinh to suffer abrasions on his ribs, face, neck, and hands.
Despite being stopped by other prisoners, at around 11pm the same day, angry at being beaten by G., Dinh took a 13cm long piece of scissors (one side of the scissors) and lifted the curtain, stabbing G., causing his skin to tear and bleed. G. got up and cursed Dinh, but Dinh continued to stab G. once in the arm, causing his skin to tear, and once in the stomach.
When G. cried out, other prisoners in the cell intervened and informed the prison officer to take G. to the infirmary for first aid. On October 24, 2023, G. requested to prosecute the case and prosecute Dinh. The results of the examination showed that G. suffered 3% health damage.
Based on the nature, level, and behavior, the Trial Panel sentenced Nguyen Van Dinh to 9 months in prison for intentionally causing injury. Combined with the sentence according to Judgment No. 588/2010/HSPT dated October 28, 2010 of the Supreme People's Court, the defendant Dinh was ordered to serve a combined sentence of life imprisonment.
Regarding the fact that the prison management officer and the prison team officer of Hoang Tien Prison had shortcomings in management, allowing prisoner Dinh to pick up half of a pair of scissors and bring them into the detention facility without detecting and confiscating them, the Hoang Tien Prison Warden has taken disciplinary action according to regulations.
