The school currently has nearly 20,000 students and postgraduates, of which about 2,100 are foreigners. It is also attracting more and more Vietnamese students.

Tuymen State University is the first university in Tyumen Oblast, founded in 1930. It is one of the largest universities in the Siberian region of the Russian Federation, training specialists in both technical and humanitarian fields, cooperating with universities and research institutes around the world.

“Chumgu University (Tюмгу - in Russian, the abbreviation of Tuymen State University) focuses a lot on investing in students and has new programs such as teaching in English, focusing on practice. Therefore, after researching, I decided to go to Chumgu University” - this is the feeling of student Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, a boy from Hue about Tuymen State University, where Tuan is studying at the Preparatory Training Department, to be equipped with Russian knowledge for his 4-year journey to study tourism at the school.

Tuan is one of 18 Vietnamese students who have just started studying here since March 2021. The new school year started in October 2020, but due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, students cannot go to school and have to temporarily study online. However, Tuan said that he and all his friends are quickly adapting to life and studying in the new environment.

“The reserve teachers have all taught foreign students, especially Vietnamese students, who they really like, so it was easy for us to learn. We talked and communicated with the teachers a lot over the internet before coming here, so it was easy for us to adapt,” Tuan shared.

Like Tuan, female student Nguyen Binh Tam Nguyen - from Da Nang city, has completed her first year of university in the country and with her academic results, she won a scholarship to study abroad at Tuymen National University, majoring in tourism. Nguyen said that they had been familiar with Russian at home, so coming here was not too surprising compared to previous courses. However, to have enough Russian to study specialized subjects, Nguyen still had to make a lot of effort: "I think it was a bit difficult because we did not have much contact with the locals and were not familiar with Russian pronunciation. When we came here, we tried to get used to it, life here is fine. We also studied many subjects to prepare for the first year, in addition to Russian."

As Vietnamese students feel, the school's teachers have a lot of experience in teaching, helping foreign students quickly adapt to studying. Ms. Natalia, a lecturer at the Preparatory Training Department, said: “We basically use communicative methods to teach students to speak freely with Russians. When we first started teaching online, of course there were some difficulties, but then the students opened up. And when they arrived, they were not afraid of communicating in Russia in the field of life, in the dormitory, in the store, in the bank, with us - the teachers, with everyone....".

The 18 new Vietnamese students are the 5th or 6th batch to study at Tuymen National University and are also the largest. The first batch consisted of only 2 students, the seniors introduced the juniors, and now there are a total of 36 students studying in various courses, majoring in many fields such as international relations, tourism, psychology, computer security, mathematics, pedagogy, geography, literature, language, sociology...

For final year students with excellent academic achievements such as Nguyen Quang Hai - majoring in Mathematics, Tong Quoc Cuong - majoring in Law, Deputy Head of the Vietnamese Student Unit in Tuymen, this place is still trusted and loved by them to register for Master's studies. Among them, Nguyen Quang Hai is a prominent and proud face in the Vietnamese student community in Tuymen.

Hai has just received the award “Top 100 best students of Tuymen 2021”. In 2020, he won First Prize in the “International Student 2020” contest of Tyumen province, received a certificate of merit from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, in addition to a long list of awards and scholarships that he has achieved over the past nearly 5 years.
