Teacher who let students beat up their classmates in front of the class was suspended from teaching

On the morning of May 17, the board of directors of Nguyen Thi Dieu High School announced that the suspension of teaching will begin today. Representatives of the board of directors and teachers will meet and apologize to students and parents.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said it has asked the school to discipline the teacher according to regulations.

Previously, a parent of class 12A1 said that during the class meeting on May 13, the homeroom teacher assigned 6 students to use a plastic tube to take turns hitting the buttocks of a student who arrived late. She required the hitting to be hard, and if anyone hit lightly, they had to do it again.

The school confirmed that such an incident actually occurred. Vice Principal Le Thi Minh Ha said that day was the day to check the information on registration for the high school graduation exam. Despite being reminded, the student still came to class late, and the teacher could not check the documents. Previously, this student had also been late.

"The teacher admitted that her actions were wrong and accepted all forms of punishment," she said. The female teacher has taught at the school for 10 years and is considered by Ms. Ha to have good expertise.

The school said it prioritized stabilizing the students' psychology and encouraging them as they prepared for their high school graduation exams. The student who was beaten still went to school to study as usual.
