Grandparents were "mobilized"

At 8am, when the swimming class at Hai Duong Children's House was about to end, many parents were already waiting early, preparing dry clothes to take their children home. Most of them were elderly people with gray hair.

While sitting on the shore, looking after and waiting for their grandchildren, the grandparents chatted with each other. They smiled and said that this was a special force "mobilized" by the children's parents during the summer to look after their grandchildren. While the parents have to go to work and the children have a long summer vacation, the grandparents look after their grandchildren, which is both useful and allows them to play with them.

If grandparents are not available to look after their grandchildren, many parents in the city also choose to send their children back to their hometown for their grandparents to take care of. Ms. Nguyen Huyen Trang in Binh Han Ward (Hai Duong City) sent her two daughters back to her hometown in Cam Che Commune (Thanh Ha) to live with their grandparents since the end of May. Ms. Trang plans to let her children stay with their grandparents for the entire 3 summer months.

"My children prefer living with their grandparents than with their parents, and we feel very secure because at home, there is an aunt who helps take care of the children. Both parents work, and the children stay home all day watching TV, so the whole family likes bringing their children to their grandparents. It's happier when grandparents have grandchildren," Trang shared.

Back home, Trang's children can play in a spacious space of 3,000 - 4,000 m2, completely different from the city with their neighbors. Occasionally, grandparents take their children on excursions, trips to visit animals and farms, and also regularly update their parents with pictures and videos of their children's activities. When the children come home, they use a smart watch to locate, detect strangers, and video call their parents at any time, so the couple feels secure.

Mobilizing grandparents or sending children back to the countryside is a method that many parents are using to fill the vacation and give their children a healthy summer vacation.

Parents accompany their children

This summer vacation, Mr. Le Van Quan in Tan Binh Ward (Hai Duong City) is busy with the schedule of taking his two children to swimming and chess classes. His house is in An Phu urban area, the older child attends chess class on Ngo Quyen Street, the younger child attends swimming class at the Provincial Children's House, so there are days when Mr. Quan only takes and picks up two children, which takes up the whole morning.

Not tired at all, Mr. Quan thinks this is a good opportunity to spend a healthy summer vacation with his children that not every parent can do.

"The children come back from school and swimming in the morning feeling very healthy, happy, able to eat and sleep well. Instead of staying at home feeling lethargic, such activities also provide the children with necessary life skills. I am also very happy to accompany the children," Mr. Quan shared.

A group of parents in Hai Duong has created a group called "Growing Up with Children" to organize useful experiential activities for their children. One of the activities the group plans to organize this summer is for children to visit and learn about human history at the National Museum of History (Hanoi).

Ms. Hoang Thu Hang, a parent in Hai Tan Ward (Hai Duong City), a member of the group, said that this is a useful summer playground, while also creating interest in history for children. This activity also attracts many parents from far away such as Chi Linh City who also want their children to participate in the experience.

Instead of forcing your child to attend extra cultural classes or letting them stay home to watch TV and play video games, the above methods will give your child a truly safe and healthy summer vacation. When the vacation ends, your child will be confident, happy, and healthy to enter the new school year with many new things.
