On March 6, the People's Court of Hai Duong province held a first-instance trial of Do Van Thanh (born in 1978, residing in Thanh Son commune, Thanh Ha) and Pham Thi Thu (born in 1993, residing in Thach Khoi ward, Hai Duong city) for the crime of concealing a criminal.
According to the indictment, Phung Duy Minh (born in 1977, residing in Binh Han Ward, Hai Duong City) while serving as Chairman of the Trade Union of Falcon Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Dai An Industrial Park, Tu Minh Ward (Hai Duong City), from 2017 to 2022, appropriated more than 753 million VND for personal expenses. In September 2024, Minh was sentenced to 7 years in prison by the People's Court of Hai Duong Province for embezzlement.
During the investigation, in May 2023, when receiving a document from the Investigation Security Agency (Hai Duong Provincial Police) requesting the Trade Union of Falcon Vietnam Company Limited to provide documents and financial receipts, Minh contacted Do Van Thanh, Director of Bitoco Real Estate and Tourism Joint Stock Company with an office address in Thach Khoi Ward (Hai Duong City).
Minh asked Thanh to re-sign two tourism service contracts that Minh had previously signed with Bitoco Real Estate and Tourism Joint Stock Company in 2019 and 2022 to take the Company's workers on tours in Cua Lo (Nghe An) and Sam Son (Thanh Hoa).
Thanh and Thu (accountants of Bitoco Real Estate and Tourism JSC) knew that Minh withdrew money from the grassroots union for personal use but still agreed. The subjects helped Minh draft, sign, and reissue 2 travel contracts and 4 receipts, inflating the amount by more than 688 million VND compared to the actual amount that the grassroots union of Falcon Vietnam Co., Ltd. paid to Bitoco Real Estate and Tourism JSC in 2019 and 2022 for Minh to provide to the Investigation Security Agency (Hai Duong Provincial Police).
The trial panel sentenced Do Van Thanh to 9 months in prison and Pham Thi Thu to 6 months in prison for concealing a crime under Point h, Clause 1, Article 389 of the Penal Code.
