Quality of life of intergenerational club members in Hai Duong is improved

The quality of life, level of understanding of rights and policies related to the elderly of members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club have all increased compared to before.

Up to 94% of members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club said their lives had improved, exceeding the initial target by 14%. This was the figure given at the preliminary conference of the VIE085 project on expanding the Intergenerational Self-Help Club, recently organized by the Standing Committee of the Hai Duong Provincial Elderly Association.

According to a survey by HelpAge International (HAI) in Hai Duong, up to 100% of members are satisfied with the intergenerational clubs they are participating in. All members reported improved health, increased understanding of rights and policies related to the elderly, increased quality of life, and increased spirit of solidarity and sharing in the elderly community. 66.8% of members reported improved income after participating in the Intergenerational Self-Help Club.

In 2 years (2023-2024), the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs have facilitated loans for 243 members. All members repay the principal and interest on time. Every quarter, the clubs coordinate to organize knowledge dissemination and health check-ups for members. Each club has at least 10 volunteers to take care of at least 5 elderly people at home, at least 2 times/week. 18 clubs have 206 volunteers and are taking care of 121 elderly people. These clubs are recognized for their important role in supporting local community development.

The project to support disadvantaged elderly people through the replication of Intergenerational Clubs from helping each other in Vietnam - Phase 2 (VIE085) funded by HAI Organization will be implemented from 2023-2025. In Hai Duong, 18 clubs have been established with 957 members.
