Dinh Minh and Huong Ly "went out for a storm" and took wedding photos near Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi on the evening of January 5.

Dinh Minh and Huong Ly, both 27 years old, in Hanoi, predicted that the Vietnamese team would win the 2024 ASEAN Cup, and the whole country would have a "stormy" night, so they chose the night of January 5 to take wedding photos.

The idea of a wedding photo shoot with the background of a crowd of people with red flags and yellow stars, celebrating the team's championship was sparked by Dinh Minh in 2018.

"That year I saw a very beautiful wedding photo album on Hoan Kiem Lake (Hanoi) after the victory of the Vietnam U23 team against Qatar and thought that if I had the chance, I would do it again," Minh said.

Minh's intention was supported by his fiancee.

Having been "going to storms" for many years, Minh knew that people would gather on the main streets of Hoan Kiem district, so he, his wife and the photography crew went to a restaurant on Tran Xuan Soan street to watch football. They planned to walk to the lake after the match.

Before the match, Huong Ly prepared her dress, shirt, and makeup. When the Vietnamese team scored the goal to make it 2-2, she and her husband changed clothes and prepared for a photo shoot because they knew for sure they would win.

"Yesterday's final match was so great and full of emotions, from joy to worry when we were tied. From the first minutes of the match, I believed that the Vietnamese players would definitely win, and the wedding photos of my husband and I would definitely be taken," Ly said.

After more than 100 minutes of official competition with a score of 3-2 in favor of Vietnam, Minh, Ly and their team of 4 photographers went to Ba Trieu and Hang Bai streets..., joined the crowd celebrating the victory and took wedding photos.

“As soon as the Vietnamese team lifted the championship trophy, we bought more red flag shirts, hand-held flags and stickers to stick on our faces. We all moved to the shooting location at the intersection of Tran Hung Dao and Hang Bai.

We waited for the traffic light to turn red and the vehicles to stop before we went to the middle of the crosswalk to take pictures.

When the light was about to turn green, we quickly moved to the side of the road, not affecting other traffic participants," Minh said.

He said the streets were filled with red flags and the bright lights of fireworks, making him both proud and moved. Many passersby gave their blessings to the young couple.

After an hour of taking photos and cheering to celebrate the victory, the two returned home because they had to go to work early the next day.

Quang Anh, the photographer for Minh and Ly, said it was the first time he took wedding photos while the whole country was in turmoil.

"Working and immersing myself in the moment when the country was filled with joy will be an unforgettable mark in my photography career," Quang Anh said.

The images and videos of Minh and Ly taking wedding photos during the "stormy" night were shared by many people on social networks, attracting hundreds of thousands of likes. Everyone sent their best wishes to them.

"Every time they look at their wedding photos, they will always remember the heroic victory of the Vietnamese national team against Thailand in the first days of 2025," wrote a netizen named Manh Quan.

As for Dinh Minh, he didn't think the photo series would get much attention. He said he didn't want to be famous, he just wanted to preserve important moments of himself and his country.

After the photo series, Minh and Ly's wedding will be held next February. In addition to traditional style photos, photos of Minh and Ly taken during the night when the whole country was "in a storm" will also be displayed at the wedding.
