Schools that consider admission early, even a semester before graduation exams, causing benchmark scores to rise, need to be monitored, according to Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai.

On the afternoon of August 19, the National Assembly Standing Committee gave its opinion on the July petition report. In it, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee, mentioned that some universities recorded record admission scores.

According to her, the reason is that there are currently too many admission options for students and parents to choose from. In the past, students often entered university through exam groups such as A, B, C, D.

"Especially with the phenomenon of early admission, autonomous schools always try to recruit enough students. Even before the graduation exam one semester, some schools have almost finished recruiting students," said Ms. Hai. The opportunity for candidates using high school graduation exam scores has decreased, the standard score has increased very high because "the quota is 100 but early admission is 80".

"Some voters say that university entrance exams are much easier than high school entrance exams, or entrance exams at the beginning of grades like first and sixth."

Ms. Hai suggested that the Ministry of Education and Training study the autonomy mechanism at universities and admission regulations. According to her, autonomy does not mean doing anything. State management agencies need to have sanctions and monitoring measures to ensure attracting good students, ensuring quality, not chasing quantity.

During the three days of August 17-19, all universities announced their admission scores. In general, with the calculation of three subject scores based on the combination, the admission scores in many schools and many majors increased compared to last year.

Hanoi National University of Education recorded a record admission score since 2015 - the time when the high school graduation exam was reformed. Of which, the History and Literature Education majors received 29.3 points, which is also the highest admission score nationwide. Without priority points, candidates must achieve an average of nearly 9.8 points per subject to be admitted.

Many schools also have majors that require a standard score of over 9.5 for each subject, such as the National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, Hanoi Law University, Social Sciences and Humanities University (Hanoi National University), Diplomatic Academy...

In addition to the appeal of "hot" majors or the lack of differentiation in the exam questions and the increasing score range, experts also believe that the reason lies in the fact that schools use too many admission methods, leading to a shortage of quotas for considering graduation exam scores. Some majors only recruit 5-15 students in this way.

The impact of early admission was mentioned by Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son at the conference on higher education on August 9.

According to Mr. Son, the education sector is facing the challenge of innovating the admission process to respond to all the innovations from high school to university. The fact that schools conduct early admissions has a negative impact on general education in the final stage, and successful candidates will not continue studying, which is very harmful. This also creates unfairness in the opportunity to enter good universities.

The Minister emphasized that schools with high autonomy in enrollment does not mean they can do whatever they want. Autonomy must be within the framework of regulations. Therefore, in the coming time, the Ministry of Education and Training may have to regulate.
