The worry of many people during Tet preparation is that the flower vase will wilt after a few days, but with this tip you can keep the flowers fresh for a month.
Dr. Vu Thi Tan, lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that when arranging flowers, you should add a copper wire and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. These two things combined will create copper ions, a famous fungicide.
The copper ions produced will kill bacteria and mold that try to penetrate the vase and reduce the life of the flowers. In addition, copper ions are also a source of nutrients, helping flowers stay fresh longer.
"This tip works on all types of flowers and can keep them fresh for up to two months," says Dr. Tan.
A 2004 study by the University of Florida also found that copper wire was effective in keeping flowers fresh, but pennies did not. That’s because modern pennies are made of zinc and are only coated with a thin layer of copper. If they were ancient coins, made entirely of copper, they would have had this effect.
