The whole country still has more than 1.58 million poor and near-poor households in multidimensional aspects.

According to the latest announcement of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the whole country still has more than 1.58 million multidimensional poor and near-poor households, the national multidimensional poverty rate in 2023 is 5.71%.

This is the basis for local ministries and branches to implement poverty reduction and social security policies and other socio-economic policies.

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) has decided to announce the results of the review of poor and near-poor households in 2023 according to the multidimensional poverty standards for the period 2022-2025 nationwide.

Accordingly, the national multidimensional poverty rate (including the rate of poor and near-poor households) is 5.71%. The total number of multidimensional poor and near-poor households is 1,586,336.

Specific multidimensional poverty rates by region are as follows:

The Northern midland and mountainous region still has the highest multidimensional poverty rate in the country, at 18.20%; the total number of multidimensional poor and near-poor households is 587,952 households.

The Central Highlands region has a multidimensional poverty rate of 12.46%, the second highest in the country; the total number of multidimensional poor and near-poor households is 195,795 households.

The North Central and Central Coast regions have a multidimensional poverty rate of 8.03%, ranking third among the six regions of the country. The total number of multidimensional poor and near-poor households is 460,456.

The Mekong Delta region has a multidimensional poverty rate of 4.15%, the fourth highest among the six regions of the country. The total number of multidimensional poor and near-poor households is 201,563.

The Red River Delta region has a multidimensional poverty rate of 1.87%, the fifth highest among the six regions of the country; the total number of multidimensional poor and near-poor households is 129,779 households.

The Southeast region has a multidimensional poverty rate of 0.23%, the lowest in the country; the total number of multidimensional poor and near-poor households is 10,791 households.

Along with that, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs also announced that the national poverty rate is 2.93%, with 815,101 poor households.

Specifically, the poverty rate in the Northern midland and mountainous region ranks first nationwide at 11.29%; the total number of poor households is 364,681.

The Central Highlands has the second highest poverty rate in the country, at 6.40%; the total number of poor households is 100,563.

The North Central and Central Coast regions have the third highest poverty rate in the country, at 3.83%; the total number of poor households is 219,750.

The Mekong Delta ranks fourth among the six regions of the country, with a poverty rate of 1.52%; the total number of poor households is 73,719.

The two regions with the lowest poverty rates in the country are the Red River Delta and the Southeast, with respective rates of 0.72% and 0.13%, and the total number of poor households is 50,149 households and 6,239 households, respectively.

Regarding near-poor households: The national near-poor household rate is 2.78%, with 771,235 near-poor households.

The Northern midlands and mountainous region still has the highest rate of near-poor households in the country at 6.91%; with 223,271 poor households.

The Red River Delta region has a near-poor household rate of 1.15%; with a total of 79,630 near-poor households.

The North Central and Central Coast regions have a near-poor household rate of 4.20%; with a total of 240,706 near-poor households.

The Central Highlands region has a near-poor household rate of 6.06%; with a total of 95,232 near-poor households.

The Southeast region has a near-poor household rate of 0.10%; with a total of 4,552 near-poor households.

The Mekong Delta region has a near-poor household rate of 2.63%; with a total of 127,844 near-poor households.

In 74 poor districts according to Decision No. 353/QD-TTg dated March 15, 2022 of the Prime Minister approving the list of poor districts and extremely disadvantaged communes in coastal and island areas for the period 2021-2025, the multidimensional poverty rate is 47.94%. The total number of poor and near-poor households is 471,571 households.

Also in these 74 localities, the poverty rate is 31.72%; the total number of poor households is 311,981 households. The near-poor household rate is 16.22%; the total number of near-poor households is 159,590 households.

The multidimensional poverty rate, the number of poor households and near-poor households announced in the decision of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs are the basis for implementing poverty reduction and social security policies, and other socio-economic policies from January 1, 2024.
