Children who have happier childhoods are less likely to face trauma and negative emotions as adults and are more likely to grow up to be successful adults.
1. Connect and share
Connecting and sharing with your children by spending time with them is a wonderful way to make them happier. When children feel understood, wanted, and accepted, they become happier. Loving your children with all your heart and being there for them in all the important moments of their lives is important to raising happy children.
2. Develop gratitude
Many people believe that they cannot feel grateful until they are happy or until they have something to be grateful for. However, if you observe closely, you will notice the opposite: people are happy because they are grateful. So teach your children to be grateful for the good things or the people who have helped them so that they too can become happier every day.
3. Accept all emotions
Life is full of joy, but we still have reasons to grieve, feel small, and feel sad. Acknowledging our sad feelings does not mean wallowing in the bad; rather, it means allowing ourselves to experience the full range of human emotions. Accepting those unpleasant feelings of sadness actually strengthens our potential to find joy in life. So choosing joy does not mean suppressing our emotions during difficult times. Make sure your children know how to accept negative emotions so they can become better.
4. Teach your children how to create good relationships
You can start by encouraging your child to perform small acts of kindness to develop empathy. Not only does this develop important skills and make your child a better person, but research shows that it also makes them happier people in the long run.
5. Teach your child how to express emotions
Raising a happy child is not about giving them material things and everything they want in life. Teach them how to survive in the real world and teach them how to feel their emotions. Children have all kinds of emotions and they can understand those emotions and understand how to act on their beliefs. It is important to encourage children to feel their emotions and talk about them so that they can learn to develop and express their emotions fully in all the different relationships they will encounter later in life.
6. Celebrate your child's achievements
Making sure to celebrate all victories, big or small, will definitely help raise a happy child. However, if you put too much emphasis on your child’s achievements and good grades, it is more likely to produce children with higher levels of depression, anxiety and substance abuse. When you celebrate your child’s achievements, it helps to boost their self-esteem, confidence and happiness but you need to keep it in moderation because over-parenting is dangerous because if children feel they cannot succeed, they can feel anxious and hopeless.
7. Teach your children to look at the positive side.
Instead of letting your children focus on sad things, let them focus on positive things. You should also spend time talking and playing with your children. On the other hand, give them time to relax after school so that they can comfortably do what they like and reduce the negative things in their lives.
8. Set responsibilities for your child
Giving your child opportunities to take on responsibilities will help them feel important and needed. These responsibilities can include chores or simply daily tasks that help them take care of themselves. You can help your child contribute to the family from a young age and your child will feel a greater sense of self-worth and happiness.
