Threatened by a stranger impersonating a police officer, an old woman in Quang Ngai almost lost 900 million VND.

On September 29, information from the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of Quang Ngai Provincial Police, the unit has just coordinated with Vietcombank Quang Ngai to promptly detect and prevent an old woman from being defrauded of her property.

Previously, the phone of Ms. NTHV (77 years old, residing in Le Hong Phong ward, Quang Ngai city) continuously received calls from subscribers of VNPT network saying that Ms. V. was involved in a drug and money laundering case that the Hoan Kiem District Police (Hanoi city) was investigating.

Because Ms. V. was using a 2G phone, the strangers asked Ms. V. to buy a smartphone, Android operating system with a Viettel sim card for communication and work. After that, Ms. V. was instructed to register and create a Zalo account.

A group of strangers video called Ms. V. via Zalo with images of many people wearing police-like uniforms to make the victim trust them.

At the same time, they threatened to arrest her, asked Ms. V. to open a bank account at SeAbank and withdraw all her savings to deposit in order to prove that she was not involved in any crime.

Fearing arrest and not knowing the police's working procedures, Ms. V. opened an account in her own name at SeAbank. Then, Ms. V. went to Vietcombank Quang Ngai to close her savings account of 900 million VND.

Faced with Ms. V's unusual actions and signs of anxiety and fear, Vietcombank staff promptly detected and coordinated with the Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department to investigate the incident, reassure her, and prevent Ms. V from transferring VND 900 million to the fraud group.
