The past 10 years have witnessed the rapid progress of Vietnamese women's football when the Vietnamese women's team won the SEA Games 4 times in a row. The achievements in Southeast Asia are a solid springboard for Vietnamese women to gradually advance to the continent and officially participate in the World Cup after a tense play-off series at the 2022 Women's Asian Cup, where Vietnam defeated both Thailand and Chinese Taipei.
Vietnam women's team will attend the World Cup for the first time
Participating in the 2023 World Cup is expected to be a boost to help Vietnamese women's football develop, moving closer to the top group in Asia. In the world's naturalization trend, the Vietnamese women's team is truly different when there is not a single naturalized or overseas Vietnamese player. 100% of the Vietnamese women's team is trained domestically, most of the players play for domestic clubs. Huynh Nhu is the only name currently playing abroad.
Sharing Group E with the reigning world champions the United States and the reigning runners-up the Netherlands, the new recruits Vietnam of course cannot compete for the two second positions in the group.
