This is part of the process of rebuilding the detailed data system for Apple Maps. After being updated, users can use the Maps application on iPhone, iPad, MacBook devices with better navigation, richer details and more accurate information about locations. In particular, users can directly view images captured by Apple's car camera similar to the Look Around feature.

Apple will use cars equipped with cameras and modern equipment to collect data. On routes not suitable for cars, Apple will use iPhones and iPads to collect data directly or use employees wearing specialized equipment. License plates or faces in the frame will be blurred before uploading to the system.

Apple will also periodically return to certain locations and recollect data to keep maps up to date and high quality.
