The dry season is when skin is often "worse" but it is also the time of many festivals, where you need to appear with a radiant appearance.
Who doesn’t want to look stunning at a party or in a crowd? Of course, your look is incomplete without glowing skin. But achieving glowing skin is not easy as winter can wreak havoc on your skin. The dry weather strips away all the moisture and leaves your skin dull. So, skin care is a must if you really want to be the center of attention at the party.
Dr. Blossom Kochhar, Chairman of Blossom Kochhar Group (India) reveals some skin care tips that every woman can easily follow before going to a party. These tips will help you get clear and acne-free skin.
1. Drink lots of water, a simple but indispensable secret for beautiful skin
Dr. Kochhar says that hydration is important for overall health and it is also important for the skin, protecting it from dryness. Not only that, it helps maintain a good pH balance on the skin, flushes out toxins, reduces wrinkles, prevents pimples, manages moisture and improves skin elasticity.
2. Eat green vegetables
A nutrient-rich diet also helps improve skin health. Include dark green leafy vegetables as they are rich in vitamins, minerals and anti-aging phytochemicals that help maintain healthy skin.
3. Cleanse your skin daily
'Cleansing daily is the key to glowing, ageless skin,' says Dr Kochhar. Skin needs a deep cleanse, especially if you're doing it for a radiant look. During the winter, switch to a hydrating cleanser that can help hydrate dry skin and support the skin barrier.
4. Moisturizing oil
Maintaining moisture is really important for any skincare regimen, even for those with oily and combination skin types. 'Apply a hydrating oil to your face, neck and around your eyes in the morning and evening,' suggests Dr Kochhar. 'You should apply it especially after removing makeup or cleansing your face to lock in moisture.'
5. Rose mask
To get glowing skin, try making a rose mask as instructed by Dr. Kochhar. Roses have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. To make your own rose mask, take a handful of rose petals (two roses), grind them into a paste with two tablespoons of milk, then add a teaspoon of honey if you want. Apply this mixture to your face and neck. Leave it on for 15 minutes, rinse, then apply moisturizer. You can apply this mask twice a week for good results.
6. Whole body care
Winter tends to dry out skin, dulling its glow not only on your face but also on your body. So, you can’t skip out on your full-body skincare routine. Dr. Kochhar suggests applying moisturizer to areas that are prone to dryness, like your legs and arms.
7. Moisturizer
Moisturizers help hydrate the skin and prevent water loss. Also, remember that even if you have oily skin, you still need to moisturize regularly. Dr. Kochhar recommends using moisturizers that contain vitamin E, amino acids, and hyaluronic acid creams.
8. Exfoliate
Avoid over-exfoliating, as this can dry out your skin. 'Don't use any AHAs, retinol or any harsh exfoliants during this time as they can strip away skin cells, shine and moisture,' says Dr Kochhar. 'Use lactic acid instead. It helps improve the skin's natural moisture factor, or how the skin holds water. Plus, it improves signs of aging and stimulates collagen production, and can firm your skin. Try exfoliating once a week if you have normal skin and twice a week if you have oily skin.'
9. Apply sunscreen
The most important step is to apply sunscreen every day. Even in the winter, wearing sunscreen is a must. Sunscreen helps brighten the skin and protects you from UV rays that can cause pigmentation and premature aging, says Dr. Kochhar.
