38 players from 8 provinces and cities competed in the final round of Vietnam Chess Prodigy 2024 held in Binh Dinh.
This morning, August 23, the final round of "Vietnam Chess Prodigy 2024" took place in Binh Dinh. After the preliminary round from all 3 regions of the North, Central and South, the organizing committee found the 38 best young athletes in the country aged 6-12, participating in the final round taking place over 2 days, August 23-24. To be present in the final round, the children surpassed more than 3,000 candidates across the country.
On the first day of competition, each player will play 7 games according to the Swiss format. A player who wins a game will be awarded 1 point, a loser will not be deducted points but will not be awarded points either. If the game ends in a draw, each player will be awarded 0.5 points. The 16 players with the most points will advance to the knockout round, which will take place at 2 p.m. on August 23.
The first prize winner of the competition will receive a prize of 50 million VND, plus a full scholarship for 5 years at the Vietnam Chess Federation. The scholarship is worth 3 million VND/month. The runner-up will receive a prize of 30 million VND and a 3-year scholarship (2 million VND/month). The third prize winner will receive a prize of 20 million VND, and a 1-year scholarship (1 million VND/month).
In particular, athletes ranked from 4 to 16 will receive cash prizes, along with a "Promising Prodigy" certificate from the Vietnam Chess Federation.
This is a tournament to honor intelligence organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation, the Ministry of Education and Training and VTC Digital Television. The tournament is broadcast live on VTC 2 channel and the media channels of the Vietnam Chess Federation. This is the first time the Vietnam Chess Prodigy program has been organized.
As planned, the federation will continue to create playgrounds to search for budding Vietnamese chess talents from the ages of 6 to 12. Athletes who achieve high results at the Vietnam Chess Prodigy tournament will have the opportunity to become the core of the Vietnamese chess team, competing in international tournaments in the future.
