At the 19th ASIAD, Chinese Chess will be competed in three events: Mixed Team; Men's Individual; Women's Individual. The Chinese Chess team will participate in all three events and is expected to win the highest medal in the Mixed Team event.
Head of the Chess Department Nguyen Minh Thang said that the Department, together with the Vietnam Chess Federation and the Coaching Board of the Vietnam Chess Team, carefully reviewed and made a list of 6 players who will participate in the 19th ASIAD, including: Nguyen Thanh Bao, Lai Ly Huynh, Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang, Nguyen Hoang Yen, Le Thi Kim Loan, Nguyen Thi Phi Liem.
In recent years, Vietnam has always had good results in Chinese Chess. Vietnam's number 1 athlete, Lai Ly Huynh, is currently training in China, where there are many of the world's top Chinese Chess players, so Huynh has many opportunities to enhance his studies and practice. Currently, the world map of Chinese Chess only has Vietnam and China - one of the leading countries. In the competition of female athletes, Vietnam's number 1 athlete, Ngo Lan Huong, has now been naturalized to compete for the Singapore team, so the Vietnamese women's team will have to compete for medals with the Singapore team, as well as many naturalized Chinese athletes in other teams.
Previously, at the 2023 Asian Chess Championship in Thailand held in early August 2023, the Vietnamese Chess Team competed quite successfully and won 2 Silver Medals from Nguyen Hoang Yen (individual women's event) and Ngo Tri Thien (individual men's event U18).
