Former leader of Vietnam's chess team To Quoc Khanh was prosecuted by Tay Ho District Police (Hanoi City) for gambling.
On the morning of June 19, the Investigation Police Agency of Tay Ho District Police announced that the investigation agency had initiated a criminal case and prosecuted To Quoc Khanh, a specialist in charge of the chess department of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, former leader of the Vietnam chess team (born in 1973, residing at 35 Tran Dai Nghia, Bach Khoa Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi).

Also prosecuted are the defendants: Nguyen Van Thi (born in 1972, residing at No. 15, Le Loi Street, Nguyen Trai Ward, Thanh Xuan); Nguyen Tuan Anh (born in 1969, residing at No. 5, Alley 7, Chua Lien Phai Lane, Group 23, Cau Den Ward, Hai Ba Trung) for the crime of Gambling as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 321 of the Penal Code.
Tay Ho District People's Procuracy has issued Decisions approving the above Decisions to prosecute the accused.
Currently, defendant To Quoc Khanh is on bail and is subject to preventive measures prohibiting him from leaving his place of residence.
According to the Investigation Police Agency, at the police station, Nguyen Van Thi confessed that in addition to gambling with Nguyen Tuan Anh, this defendant also provided To Quoc Khanh with a football betting account so that defendant Khanh could gamble with Thi in the form of football betting.

On May 24, 2023, after learning that Nguyen Van Thi was arrested, To Quoc Khanh went to Tay Ho District Police to surrender and honestly confessed to gambling in the form of football betting with Thi.
The Investigation Police Agency of Tay Ho District Police is continuing to investigate, expand and clarify the content of the case.
As previously reported, Tay Ho District Police have dismantled a gambling ring in the form of online football betting.
