Ten Vietnamese candidates won Chinese government scholarships (CSC) to enter two top universities in Beijing and Tsinghua, the largest number in the past five years.
The Chinese Embassy in Vietnam announced the above information at the ceremony to award admission certificates to candidates who won the CSC scholarship for the 2024-2025 school year on the afternoon of August 8.
A total of 76 students received CSC scholarships, including 48 at undergraduate level, 6 at master's and 22 at doctoral level, respectively.
Of these, 6 students were admitted to Peking University and 4 to Tsinghua University. According to the Chinese Embassy, this is the largest number of students admitted to these two schools in the past 5 years under the CSC scholarship. These are the two most famous schools in China, both in the world's top 20 in the QS University Rankings 2025.
"The students who received admission letters today were selected and introduced by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. They are all outstanding talents of Vietnam," said Mr. Hung Ba, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training, educational cooperation is a bright spot in the relationship between Vietnam and China.
In recent times, China has trained many highly qualified officials and experts in Vietnam in fields such as medicine, art, engineering, sports, tourism, economics, agriculture, fisheries, etc.
The Vietnamese side commits to maintain 150 full scholarships and 100 partial scholarships (tuition-free) for Vietnamese students every year. The scholarships will prioritize fields and majors that are in high demand in Vietnam, serving the goals of economic and social development.
Data from the Chinese Ministry of Education shows that in the 2023-2024 school year, about 23,000 Vietnamese students will study in China.
CSC scholarships are open from November of the previous year to February of the following year. Applications usually require applicants to have transcripts, study plans, language certificates, and letters of recommendation.
According to the Chinese Scholarship Council (information page on Chinese Government scholarships), the scholarship includes tuition fees, dormitory fees and a monthly allowance of about 2,500 - 3,500 yuan (8.6 - 12 million VND), depending on the level of study. The training period for a doctoral program is from 3 to 5 years, from 2 to 4 years for a master's program and from 4 to 5 years for a bachelor's program.
