At least one female victim died after being taken to St Barnabas Hospital and five others were injured in the shooting at the Mount Eden Avenue subway station in the Bronx at 5:37 p.m. local time, a city police representative said.
According to witnesses, a subject fired more than 10 rounds into the crowd waiting for the subway at Mount Eden Avenue station. The perpetrator then fled.
New York police have cordoned off the scene and asked people to stay away from the shooting area.
