Traffic violations decrease sharply after 2 months of implementing Decree 168

The Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) said on the afternoon of February 28 that from January 1 to February 28, traffic police nationwide handled more than 504,500 violations, revoked more than 38,700 driving licenses, deducted points from nearly 48,700 driving licenses, and detained nearly 146,500 vehicles.

Violations decreased significantly, of which the violation of carrying too many people decreased by 58.5%; the violation of overloading and oversizing decreased by 50.2%; the violation of alcohol concentration decreased by 45.9% (nearly 90,000 cases); the violation of speed decreased by 27.5% (more than 44,500 cases). The violation of not obeying traffic lights also decreased by more than 17%, the violation of road section and lane decreased by nearly 39%.

The number of road traffic accidents also decreased sharply. In the two months, 2,895 accidents occurred, killing 1,582 people and injuring 2,003 people, down 1,443 cases, 244 deaths and 1,458 injuries respectively compared to the same period in 2024. Compared to the previous two months, the number of accidents decreased by 937, with 416 deaths and 616 injuries.

A representative of the Traffic Police Department stated that people's awareness of law enforcement has been significantly improved, demonstrated through strict compliance with traffic signals. The Traffic Police Department said that in the coming time, they will increase patrols, strictly handle violations, and at the same time strengthen the management and testing of driving licenses.

Decree 168/2024 adds provisions for deducting driving license points and increasing fines for many violations, especially non-compliance with traffic lights and driving on sidewalks.
