Athletes who win gold medals at the 19th ASIAD can receive a total bonus of 340 million VND.
"At this time, athletes who won gold medals at the 19th ASIAD received a bonus of 200 million VND. The Department of Sports and Physical Training is still calling for more social resources to increase the bonus for athletes who achieved high results at this year's Games," said the leader of the Department of Sports and Physical Training.
This bonus level has decreased slightly compared to the time of ASIAD 18. At the Games held in Indonesia, athletes won 4 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 18 bronze medals. Pencak Silat contributed 2 gold medals in the men's 90-95 kg category by Nguyen Van Tri and the men's 70-75 kg category by Tran Dinh Nam.
Duong Thuy Vi is an athlete capable of winning gold medal at ASIAD 19.
The remaining two gold medals belonged to the rowing team (with 4 members including Luong Thi Thao, Ho Thi Ly, Pham Thi Thao and Ta Thanh Huyen) and Bui Thi Thu Thao in the women's long jump event in athletics.
In addition to the bonus from the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the State has a bonus level according to regulations for athletes who win medals at the Asian Games.
Specifically, 1 gold medal is awarded 140 million VND, if breaking the congress record will be awarded an additional 55 million VND; 1 silver medal is awarded 85 million VND and 1 bronze medal is awarded 55 million VND.
Thus, athletes who win gold medals at the 19th ASIAD will certainly receive at least 340 million VND in bonuses. In fact, over many Games, the bonus amount can far exceed the initial announced amount. Many businesses and federations of each sport are willing to pay very high bonuses. This amount can exceed 1 billion VND.
Sports such as sepak takraw, karate, shooting, boxing, and chess are classified in the key group with the potential to compete for gold medals. Group 2 is the group of sports with the potential to win silver and bronze medals such as: rowing, wushu, kurash, athletics, archery, canoeing, swimming, taekwondo, chess, cycling, gymnastics, weightlifting, table tennis, roller skating, wrestling, judo, jujitsu, and fencing.
Group 3 is the group of sports that have no chance of winning medals such as: football, women's volleyball, soccer, badminton, tennis, golf. The goal of Vietnamese sports is to win from 2 to 5 gold medals.
The Vietnamese sports delegation has 504 members attending the 19th ASIAD. The flag bearer for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the opening ceremony is swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming). The Games will start from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou (China).
Vietnamese sports set a target of striving to win from 2 to 5 gold medals at the 19th ASIAD. Accordingly, sports are divided into 3 groups.
