On June 6, US President Joe Biden affirmed that US weapons will not be used to attack deep into Russian territory after the US leader allowed Ukraine to attack targets inside Russia with weapons provided by the West.

In an interview with ABC News, President Biden made it clear that the US would not allow (Ukraine) to attack 200 miles (320km) deep into Russian territory and would not allow attacks on Moscow or the Kremlin.

According to Mr. Biden, the weapons provided by the US to Ukraine are for attacks "right across the border."

The US president made the remarks in France, where he is attending events marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings on the beaches of Normandy during World War II.

Previously, the US and several other Western countries allowed Kiev to use Western-funded weapons to attack Russian territory.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned on June 3 that the United States could face "deadly consequences" if it ignores Moscow's claims about Ukraine's use of weapons supplied by Washington.

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that NATO member countries were "playing with fire" and risked causing a deeper global conflict.

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev called President Biden's decision "a serious escalation of the conflict." He also warned that Russia would destroy any Western weapons used against it "both in Ukraine and on the territory of other states."

Also on June 6, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his country would transfer Mirage-2000 fighter jets to Ukraine and train Ukrainian pilots. This is part of new military cooperation between the two sides amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Speaking on French television, Mr. Macron stated that on June 7, the two countries will launch a new cooperative relationship and announce the transfer of Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets manufactured by Dassault (France) to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly these aircraft in France.

However, Mr. Macron has not specified the quantity, timing and financial terms for providing Mirage 2000-5 aircraft to Ukraine.

Macron is expected to propose training pilots starting this summer, a process that normally takes 5-6 months, during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky at the Elysee Palace in Paris on June 7. According to Macron, France has proposed training 4,500 Ukrainian soldiers.

Mr Zelensky is visiting France to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings on the beaches of Normandy during World War II.
