Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. points to the stands during his team's match against Valencia at Mestalla Stadium in Valencia, Spain, on Sunday.

In Switzerland, UEFA will issue a statement on the incident after discussions with its members.

In a related development, Spanish police have arrested seven people who are believed to have made threats against the Real Madrid star. On Twitter, Spanish police announced that four people were arrested in the capital Madrid, including three who were “members of a group of extremist fans”. According to the announcement, the remaining three were arrested in Valencia for racist acts against Vinicius Jnr.

On the same day, Puma also commented on the incident. The German sportswear manufacturer affirmed: "We never accept racism. We condemn this action in any form and we want to express our solidarity with Vinicius Junior at this time." Puma is currently sponsoring Valencia and is also one of the sponsors of La Liga.

Vinicius Jnr was the centre of attention during the match last weekend when fans at the Mestalla repeatedly made bad gestures and words towards him. In the final minutes of the match, players from both teams rushed at each other, and Vinicius Jnr was sent off when the referee judged that he had punched Valencia player Hugo Duro. However, the Spanish Refereeing Committee has given Assistant Referee Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva - who was in charge of the VAR system for the match between Valencia and Real Madrid - a "temporary leave" due to issues related to Vinicius Jnr's red card.

Some reports suggest the Brazilian was provoked, not just by the stands but also by opposition players. Replays show Duro holding Vinicius Jnr by the neck before players from both teams clashed.
